The comfortable environment we maintain for our young patients is important in helping to instill good dental hygiene early in life. Children’s teeth are more susceptible to cavities as they do not always brush well. We advise parents to observe them so they brush properly. As kids tend to eat throughout the day, their teeth are exposed more often to the acid produced from food, which can result in more cavities. Making sure they develop proper dental habits can help to reduce the occurrence of cavities.

Sealants Can Prevent Child Tooth Decay
Even thorough brushing may not clean all the grooves in a child’s back teeth. When acids and bacteria form plaque, tooth decay will start. When there is decay in a tooth, it has permanent damage that needs a filling or crown. With today’s advancements in dental technology, we can keep this from happening. One application of dental sealants is a preventive treatment we highly recommend for your children.

This is how it is applied to teeth:
After your child’s teeth are cleaned and sterilized, a clear sealant is applied. A curing light is used to bond the sealant to the teeth. This is a quick and easy procedure that takes only a few minutes with no shots or drills necessary. The entire tooth remains intact and the sealant is invisible. This is one of the best preventive treatments to preserve a child’s or adolescent’s teeth.

Meet the Doctor

Dr. Douglas Callow is pleased to be able to offer beautiful smiles to his neighbors in Plymouth and the surrounding communities.

Dr. Callow earned his dental degree from the University of Michigan and was awarded alumni membership in Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the national dental honor society. He has since undergone extensive postgraduate education, specifically selecting courses focusing on cosmetic dentistry. His recent advanced training in Invisalign™ invisible aligners allows him to provide more patients with beaming smiles, quickly and discreetly. He has also attended courses in full mouth and single tooth dental implants for patients who are candidates for these natural-looking, functional restorations. His commitment to lifelong education means he is constantly evaluating emerging dental methods and technologies in order to provide his patients with the best results in the least invasive manner with a high emphasis on comfort. This commitment ensures the highest level of care, both today and tomorrow.

Dr. Callow has served his community as a youth soccer coach and enjoys visiting schools to educate children on proper oral hygiene. He and his wife Fawndé are very proud of their three grown children, and in his spare time, Dr. Callow enjoys soccer, racquetball, gardening, and running.
